The Sikh Lawyers Association (herein referred to as the “SLA”) is a UK based group which focuses on supporting and assisting Sikh lawyers and students alike. Created in September 2020, the SLA is the first of its kind; prior to the creation of the SLA, there was no official representation for Sikh lawyers within the legal profession.
Sikh Lawyers Association was founded by four people, Tinessa Kaur, Paman Singh, Jaskeerat Singh and Karan Kaur.
For the avoidance of doubt we are a non-political, entirely independent association whose principles are based on the core values of Sikhi. The core principles of Sikhi can be summarised as follows:

The Sikh Lawyers Association is built on the three core principles of the Sikh ethos:
Kirat Karna
To earn one’s livelihood through creative, productive, and honest labour. In the legal profession, this can entail striving to maximise the efforts we undertake for our clients.
Vand Chhakna
This is the concept of sharing with others. The principle is not limited to sharing only wealth, but also to our time and expertise in practice. The concept of Sewa (selfless service) is intrinsic to the aims of SLA.
Naam Japna
To remain humble and appreciate that we are a small part of a greater connectivity. To enshrine this in what we do and to remember our Creator, who exists outwith physical form, gender or class.

Support & Guidance
The SLA’s mission is to reinforce the core Principles of Sikhi, by creating a community of Sikh lawyers and students who can come together to share, support and help each other navigate the legal profession,
Diversity and inclusion is high on the agenda for the legal profession and the SLA welcomes the initiatives that various legal bodies are adopting. However, there is a still long way to go and for those who practice the Sikh faith, navigating the legal profession can be difficult. Whilst the SLA is a grassroots organisation, we provide counsel, guidance and support to all those who seek it. The ways in which we do that include (but not limited to):
Mentorship Scheme
